KiwiData – Designated .iwi.nz Registrar

.iwi.nz Domain Registrations

As a Māori-owned registrar and domain hosting business, KiwiData is proud to support whānau, iwi, hapū, and Māori organisations with the initial registration of .iwi.nz domain names.

Eligibility Requirements

Registrants of .iwi.nz domain names must be one of the following:

  • A traditional Māori iwi or hapū
  • A taura here iwi group operating with permission of the parent iwi
  • A Mandated Iwi Organisation (MIO) as defined in the Māori Fisheries Act
  • An entity owned or governed by one or more traditional Māori iwi or hapū
  • A taura here iwi organisation operating with permission from the main iwi

Exceptions

Two exceptions exist to the above eligibility rules:

  • The .iwi.nz Moderator may be listed as the registrant of domains required for moderation purposes.
  • InternetNZ Incorporated may hold domains used for the technical stability of the .nz domain space.

Registrar Process

Once the domain request is approved:

  1. The application is confirmed
  2. KiwiData registers the domain name within the .nz registry
  3. The domain becomes active within the .nz domain system

Change of Registrant

A change of registrant can only occur if the new registrant meets the .iwi.nz eligibility criteria.

If a registrant change occurs that does not meet the eligibility criteria, it may be reversed or referred to the Domain Name Commission as a breach of the moderation policy.
