Why Are .NZ Domain Prices Increasing — and What You Can Do About It
???? Effective from 1 July 2025

We know — price hikes are never welcome news. But with InternetNZ increasing wholesale costs across all .nz domain types, we want to keep you informed, explain what’s behind the change

What’s Changing?

From 1 July 2025, the wholesale price for all .nz domains (including .co.nz, .org.nz, .net.nz, etc.) will increase by 22%. This change affects all domain providers across New Zealand.

At KiwiData, this means our standard .nz domain pricing will rise from $35 to $39 per year (excluding GST).

Why the Price Increase?

The .nz domain space is managed by InternetNZ, a non-profit responsible for the infrastructure that keeps your .nz domains secure, stable, and running smoothly.

They haven’t increased wholesale pricing since 2020, but infrastructure costs have surged by nearly 75% over the past five years. The new pricing helps cover:

  • Growing operational costs

  • Stricter privacy and compliance requirements

  • Long-term investment in the security and resilience of the .nz namespace

This change is about future-proofing New Zealand’s domain ecosystem.
